First of all, I appreciate the letter you sent me, I respect all of you and I thank you for your concerns and prayers.
Well, I really don't think a person knows the full meaning of freedom until they come to a place such as this. Personally I think freedom is what America Is. That is also what is troubling America today. But I am so thankful to be living in a country as great as yours. Freedom means to me that you may do your will within the Laws of the Country and the Laws of the Lord. There are many types of freedom it's hard to describe, what they means to me. But being free is being able to be happy and love each other and not having someone dictating that, living the life you choose, not one that is demanded of you. As such as what was here a year or so ago.
Again, thanks for your letters and prayers. REMEMBER DON'T TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED AND ALWAYS REMEMBER FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.
Sincerely, PFC Caughman Baghdad, Iraq

A LETTER FROM HEAVEN
Mom and Dad, I know it has been a few days since I talked to you last, but I got an invitation I just couldn't let pass. I have been invited to fish in a tournament on the crystal blue sea, you'll never guess who my partner will be. He said the competition will be strong, some familiar names you will know, Peter, James, and John. And, oh yea, Pops is fishing with Paul, but he doesn't think they have much hope. My partner says he'll need my help for sure, with His nail scared hands it's hard to tie on a lure.
I know you all are sad cause I beat you here, but for me it will only be a moment of time. I know for you it will seem like years. But don't worry I'll save some fish until you get here also.
Just trust in Jesus He'll help you carry the load until your invitation comes and it's your time to go.
I have got to go now, He has started the boat. In closing- tell all the world that HE is the ONLY hope.
GONE FISHING WITH JESUS,
LOVE, THOMAS

THOMAS CAUGHMAN DIED IN JUNE 2004, when his convoy came under a rocked propelled grenade attack.
Thomas believe that the US mission to Iraq was necessary and believed in his mission there. Thomas knew that Freedom Is Not Free But Is Paid for By a Price. He paid that price by giving his all for his country.
The Caughman family received letters from many members of his unit in Iraq. Soldiers wrote to the family and told them how his personality, smile, confidence and faith in God had helped them cope in a combat zone and lent them comfort in battle.
